Art and creating was never in Tim’s field of view. It wasn’t something he even
entertained as a child. It wasn’t until he was 41 and needed a way to save a cherished family heirloom that he had his first encounter creating something from nothing. This exhibit has been curated so you can walk along through Tim’s creative journey from that first creation until today.

Distractions
A GCC Student Exhibition
May 3rd, 2024 - May 31st, 2024
Showcasing work by Sam Kuusinen, Ava Machowski, Suzy Q Groden, Isabella Lonardo, Madeline Keating, Mars, + Erin Shabunin
This exhibit is the culmination of work by a small group of GCC student artists, corralled by Joan O’Beirne of the Art Department and instructor
While brainstorming an idea for the show title, the groups grew increasingly distracted – and decided that the word “distractions'' truly encapsulated their collective experience. Distraction – not necessarily being negative – is an opportunity to explore and experiment with their art. The work you see represents a struggle between avoiding distraction and embracing the chaotic nature of creating.

"We have decided to develop a strategy to effectively change social attitudes towards addiction. We have done this by creatively expressing ourselves, our bodies and our minds through art music dance and yoga. Spending our time together as peers, we stand by a code of ethics to create that safe space where we can nurture and develop our creative interests. Anything is better than substance use so we perform daily tasks to keep ourselves busy doing. Being.
Know us, observe our work, and decide for yourselves is this a good way to stay sober and off drugs? This is how we represent ourselves. Enjoy!”
